Bicycle Directions on GoogleMaps!

It’s one of those things that you look for, knowing that Google must have thought of it first. Indeed, they had, but the implementation was much more complex than road maps/directions.

But in honor of the National Bicycle Summit in DC, GoogleMaps now has bicycle directions, giving you a route with as many bike lanes as possible. It is still in beta, so don’t count on it, but it’s still fun to have.

CycleTracks

This is one of the coolest implementations of technology and bicycle advocacy, perhaps ever. Though LightLane is pretty rad. CycleTracks is an application for your iPhone or Android that utilizes GPS to track how and where you ride from day to day. It then uploads that info to the SF Transportation Authority for a better idea of where new bike lanes need to be, cyclist awareness signs, etc. Hopefully other cities/counties/states see how easy this would be to implement. This would be a great way to show cities like boise that we don’t need a bike lane down bannock, we need one down state, etc.

Brake Bill, now on the docket

There’s a bill in the Idaho senate right now with one odd amendment and a new section that has been and issue in nearly every other state since everybody and their dog (including myself) started riding track bikes, fixed-gear conversions, etc. That issue deals with having one operable brake on a bicycle that is able to fully stop and hold a cyclist.. if you care, the txt is attached here. We’ll see if anyone in the state senate has any idea of what’s going on when it’s read to them.. even if it does pass, my quads will still be more efficient than two small pieces of rubber.

Frame (my) Own Adventure

It’s new frame time for me and after months of looking, I still haven’t found what will strike my fancy (and is available).. so nicholas and I went over to JoyRide Cycles and we talked some things over and they mentioned Evil Bikes. So I headed over to their site to find that one of my favorite artists, Jeremy Fish, is working with them. My favorite were these headbadges! Verily, verily awesome.. but the search for a frame is still going.
